The United States conducted additional strikes on Iran, marking its third set of military actions within a week, after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards moved to close or restrict transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to U.S. officials, the strikes were carried out in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels moving through the international waterway. U.S. Central Command said the operations were intended to impose “heavy costs” for targeting ships and to respond to what it described as violations of the cease-fire.
The move to disrupt shipping came after multiple incidents involving tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, with reports indicating damage and fire on at least one vessel. Maritime authorities and regional governments also condemned attacks on tankers transiting near the Omani coast, where Iranian warnings had previously urged ships not to follow certain routes.
In parallel, the U.S. also took steps associated with Iranian oil shipments, including revoking a waiver that allowed parts of Iran’s oil sales. Analysts and security experts said the latest cycle of strikes and counter-strikes increases the likelihood that shipping traffic will slow or reroute further to avoid danger areas, adding strain to already tight global energy flows.
