Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was not in favour of launching a preemptive strike against Iran before Israel’s October 27 election. Speaking on Army Radio, he rejected accusations from political rivals that he was seeking a confrontation for electoral advantage, saying such an attack would not benefit Israel. Netanyahu nevertheless warned that Israel would respond forcefully if Iran or aligned groups attacked. He declined to discuss possible action after the election or details of his recent conversations with Washington about Iran.
