Colombia opened its embassy in Jerusalem on October 14, becoming the 10th country to establish an embassy there. The move reverses former President Gustavo Petro’s break with Israel in May 2024 over the war in Gaza. President Abelardo de la Espriella, who took office in August, has also restored the free trade agreement Petro terminated; it was reinstated on October 13. Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar attended the opening. The embassy move drew criticism from Palestinian and Jordanian officials over Jerusalem’s disputed status.
