PASIG CITY, PHILIPPINES — A fast-moving fire tore through a densely populated residential enclave in Pasig City early Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026, destroying an estimated 30 houses and leaving more than 100 families abruptly homeless.
The blaze, which escalated rapidly due to closely packed wooden structures and strong morning winds, sent residents fleeing into the streets with only the clothes on their backs.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Pasig station, the alarm was raised just after 4:00 AM in a residential pocket of the city. The fire is believed to have originated on the second floor of a light-material home before quickly leaping across narrow alleyways to adjacent properties.
Because many residents were still asleep when the fire broke out, panic ensued as neighbors banged on doors and windows to wake one another.
"We woke up to people screaming that there was a fire," said one local resident who managed to escape with her children. "By the time we opened our door, the smoke was already thick and black. We couldn't save anything—no documents, no clothes, nothing. We just ran."
The BFP deployed multiple fire trucks to the scene, raising the alert status to a third alarm within thirty minutes to draw in backup from neighboring volunteer fire brigades.
Firefighters faced significant difficulties maneuvering their heavy vehicles and equipment through the neighborhood's narrow, congested streets. To reach the heart of the inferno, responders had to connect multiple long sections of hose lines from the main road.
Volunteers and residents formed bucket brigades to help contain the edges of the fire. After nearly two hours of intense firefighting, emergency crews officially declared the blaze under control at approximately 6:15 AM.
Medical teams treated several residents and firefighters at the scene for minor smoke inhalation and minor cuts, but authorities confirmed that no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported. Local barangay officials and municipal social welfare teams have rapidly set up a temporary evacuation center at a nearby covered basketball court to accommodate the displaced population.
Preliminary assessments indicate that while 30 physical structures were completely gutted, the number of affected families is closer to 100, as many of the destroyed properties were multi-family rental units or shared compounding lots.
"Our immediate priority is providing hot meals, clean water, blankets, and hygiene kits to the affected families," a city social welfare representative said. "We are currently registering all displaced individuals to ensure they receive proper financial and modular housing assistance in the coming days."
Arson investigators are currently on-site conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Early indicators suggest an electrical short circuit or an unattended cooking appliance may have triggered the disaster.
