4 Injured After Limousine Taxi and Car Collide in Violent Tanjong Pagar Crash, Demolishing Traffic Light

SINGAPORE — Four people were rushed to the hospital after a violent collision involving a white limousine taxi and a grey Mercedes-Benz saloon car at a busy Tanjong Pagar junction, severely damaging a traffic light and scattering debris across the road.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Keppel Road and Kampong Bahru Road. Eyewitness footage shared on social media showed the grey Mercedes brought to a halt in the middle of the junction with heavy damage to its front bumper. The impact sent the white limousine taxi veering off course and slamming directly into a traffic light on the side of the junction, nearly bringing the entire structure down.

Emergency services and Traffic Police officers quickly arrived on the scene to secure the area and assist the victims. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and local police confirmed that four individuals—the 58-year-old male driver of the Mercedes, his 51-year-old female passenger, the 65-year-old female taxi driver, and her 46-year-old female passenger—were all taken conscious to Singapore General Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

While medical personnel attended to the injured, officers managed traffic surrounding the damaged junction as cleanup crews worked to address the knocked-over signal light and clear vehicle debris from the roadway.

Police investigations into the exact cause of the collision remain ongoing as authorities review dashcam footage and eyewitness statements.

The incident caused temporary traffic congestion along the busy Keppel Road corridor as land transport crews worked quickly to set up temporary traffic management measures. Authorities deployed traffic wardens to manual-control the intersection while engineering teams assessed the damage to the traffic signal pole, which was left severely bent and disconnected from its primary electrical housing.

Road safety advocates have used the crash as a reminder for motorists to exercise heightened caution at major signalized intersections, particularly during off-peak hours when speed can become a factor. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has since dispatched repair crews to completely replace the compromised traffic light infrastructure and ensure the safe flow of vehicles through the heavily traveled junction.
