Masked 15-year-old stabbed schoolgirl, court told.

There is a particular kind of horror that attaches itself to violence in a place of learning—a place where children are meant to be safe, where the day unfolds in predictable rhythms of lessons and breaks and the quiet business of growing up. On March 11, at Thorpe St Andrew School near Norwich, that safety was broken in a corridor, in the middle of the morning, by a masked 15-year-old with a kitchen knife.

The defendant, now 16 and unable to be named for legal reasons, is on trial at King's Lynn Crown Court, accused of attempted murder. He has admitted possessing a kitchen knife without lawful authority and has accepted that he intended to cause really serious harm, but he denies attempted murder .

The prosecution's case, opened by Christopher Paxton KC, is that the boy "went to school not to learn, but to kill." CCTV footage shown to the jury captured the moment he approached the girl from behind and stabbed her in the back. He was dressed in black, wearing a face mask, and "tooled up" with a kitchen knife. After the stabbing, he ran from the scene, pursued by a teacher, and was arrested a short time later .

The girl, who was 15 at the time, was taken to hospital. The wound to her back was treated by being glued together, and she was discharged the following day. Paxton described it as "sheer good fortune" that she was not more seriously hurt, and told the jury that the strike had been delivered while she was "defenceless and vulnerable" .

The trial has heard evidence of what prosecutors describe as the defendant's "obsessive and dangerous interest in killers and killing." Notes found by police included a motive list: "misanthropy, misogyny, suicide, bullying." One note, allegedly written the evening before the attack, read: "I really want to do it, really bad. I hate having to wait... I need a plan." It continued: "I want at least two, maybe three. I'd be proud of five" .

A search of the defendant's home also uncovered a "victims list" with a question mark, and videos he had allegedly created—including one showing American serial killers Edmund Kemper and Ted Bundy "dancing over a still image of the globe," and another featuring the fictional killer Dexter Morgan . Paxton told the jury that the boy had written: "The idea of violence or possibly even murder sparks something in me. I don't know what it is or what it means either. But I think I like the idea of it. It inspires me" .

The court also heard that in November 2025, the boy had taken a kitchen knife and later told his mother he had been "feeling down and had intended to hurt himself but chickened out." His school became involved, and he agreed to receive counselling .

The trial continues. For the girl who was stabbed, the physical wound has healed. For the school community, and for the family of the defendant, the reckoning with what happened in that corridor on a March morning is only beginning.
