Police have released the footage; the question is whether anyone will know them.

There is a particular stillness to the early hours of a city, when the streets belong to the few and the night has not yet given way to morning. In that quiet, a woman walking along North Terrace in Adelaide's CBD found herself the target of violence that police say was as sudden as it was brutal.

The assault occurred about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, on North Terrace between Bank Street and Blyth Street. According to South Australian Police, the victim was punched and kicked multiple times by two unknown men. The suspects were last seen walking along Bank Street .

On Monday, Eastern District police released CCTV footage of the two men they wish to identify. One was wearing a grey Adidas hoodie, black trousers, pale brown work boots, and a green cap. The other was dressed in a full grey tracksuit with a small black cross-body bag. Both men appeared to have brown beards .

The investigation has been ongoing since August, but the public release of the footage marks an escalation in the effort to identify those responsible. Eastern District patrols are leading the inquiry and have asked anyone who recognizes the men or has information to contact Crime Stoppers .

The assault has not been linked to any other incident, and police have not suggested a motive. What remains is a description of violence that unfolded in the dark, on a street that by day carries the ordinary traffic of a city going about its business.

The public's assistance is now the most direct path toward identifying the two men. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or by calling 1800 333 000, quoting reference number 218962 .

For now, the investigation continues, and the men remain unidentified.
