When Crypto Meets Robotics: Tether Eyes €1 Billion Bet on Humanoid Startup

In a surprising pivot from stablecoins to real-world machines, Tether is reportedly in advanced talks to lead a €1 billion funding round for Neura Robotics, a German start-up developing AI-driven humanoid robots. The move underscores Tether’s ambition to channel its vast balance sheet into frontier technologies that go beyond the traditional realm of cryptocurrency.

Neura Robotics, founded to build intelligent robotic systems, sees its future in both industry and homes. According to people familiar with the talks, Neura aims to produce as many as 5 million robots by 2030, a bold target that reflects its long-term vision. These machines are not just mechanical arms — they’re meant to carry the kind of adaptive intelligence that could one day move them into homes, warehouses, and factories alike.

If the deal closes, it could value Neura at €8–10 billion, a substantial leap from its last funding round earlier this year, when it raised €120 million. Investors appear to be buying into Neura’s narrative: a robotics company that could reach a mainstream “iPhone moment” by making humanoid robots widespread and potentially affordable.

For Tether, the strategy is clear: deploy profits from its stablecoin operations into high-growth technology. The firm reportedly earned more than $10 billion in profit in the first three quarters of this year, giving it unique firepower to make bold bets on AI, compute infrastructure, robotics, and other emerging arenas.

This potential investment represents more than a financial bet. It’s an alignment of vision. Tether’s leadership has expressed that they expect a future filled with billions of robots and trillions of AI agents, operating alongside humans. In that world, backing a robotics firm is not just a business play — it’s a foundational move.

Still, big bets come with big risks. Scaling humanoid robotics is notoriously hard. Neura’s ambitions depend on supply chains, manufacturing scale, and the ability to iterate on software and hardware simultaneously. There is also fierce competition from other robotics players, including tech giants racing to bring functional humanoids to market.

If successful, though, this deal could help define a new era: one in which a crypto-native firm helps seed the infrastructure of tomorrow’s robotic workforce.
