The Washington Post’s opinions editor, David Shipley, resigned after serving about one year in the role following owner Jeff Bezos’s announcement of a sweeping new libertarian direction for the paper’s opinion pages. Bezos said the section would publish daily columns supporting two “pillars”: personal liberties and free markets. Shipley reportedly chose to step down rather than oversee the revamped approach, which drew concerns from some staff about editorial independence and whether opposing views would be excluded.
