US President Donald Trump told supporters in Bullhead City, Arizona, that Canada would “end up being the 51st state,” adding, “because that’s the only way it works.” He accused Canada of treating the United States unfairly, citing tariffs on dairy products and claiming the US was losing billions by supporting its northern neighbour. Trump also said Canada would be “doing something just like Greenland.” Canadian officials have repeatedly rejected his statehood rhetoric; no process to make Canada a US state is underway.
