U.K. Government to Designate Iran’s IRGC a Threat to National Security

Britain’s government is moving toward designating Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a threat to national security under proposed new state-threat powers. The National Security (State Threats) legislation would allow the Home Secretary to label groups linked to “foreign power threat activity,” such as assassination attempts, surveillance, and sabotage, subject to parliamentary oversight. It would also create new criminal offences, including supporting a designated organisation and receiving material benefits. The government argues the move is necessary to tackle proxy-based hostile activity.
