Trump Not Planning to Back Bolsonaro’s Claim to Be Brazil’s Leader, Sources Say

The Trump administration does not plan to endorse Flavio Bolsonaro’s claim to be Brazil’s rightful leader, sources told Reuters, despite helping him travel to the United States. President Donald Trump criticized Brazil’s election as appearing “rigged,” but said he had not endorsed Bolsonaro. Sources said Trump could change his position, but appears reluctant to risk another diplomatic dispute with Brazil. Bolsonaro declared himself the “elected president” in a letter online, later revising it to call himself the country’s rightful “leader.”
