South Korea Expresses Regret Over Japanese PM’s Yasukuni Offering

South Korea’s government expressed “deep disappointment and regret” after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi sent an offering to Tokyo’s Yasukuni Shrine on Saturday for the start of its three-day autumn festival. Seoul urged Japanese leaders to face history and show remorse through action, saying this is important for trust-based relations between the countries. Takaichi sent the offering in her capacity as prime minister but plans to skip a personal visit. Yasukuni honors Japan’s war dead, including convicted war criminals too.
