Russian Prosecutors Seek 14–15 Years for “Organizers of Unrest” in Baymak

Russia’s prosecution has requested prison terms of 14 to 15 years for the “organizers of the unrest in Baymak,” alleging they played key roles in organizing protests in January 2024 in Bashkortostan. The case is linked to demonstrations sparked after a prominent Bashkir activist was sentenced earlier that month and protests later turned into clashes with security forces. Authorities charge defendants with “organizing mass unrest,” with prosecutors seeking the maximum term allowed for such allegations. Several other defendants face additional charges for alleged violence toward police.
