Police Driver Killed, 6 Wounded in Deadly IED Attack on Patrol Van in Karak

A police driver was killed and six other officers were wounded when a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a police vehicle in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The patrol van, belonging to the Banda Daud Shah Police Station, was en route to DarghaShaheedan to conduct a search operation when it was struck in the mountainous Ghol Banda area near Bahadur Khel.

The force of the roadside explosion caused the official police mobile to flip and overturn completely. Emergency teams and additional police units dispatched to the scene immediately secured the perimeter and began extracting the wounded personnel.

Police driver Wajid died at the scene from injuries sustained in the blast. Six other officers—identified as Noor Shah Ali, Syed Shah, Imran, Yaseen, Shamim, and Riaz—suffered varied injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency care. Meanwhile, authorities cleared the damaged wreckage from the roadway to reopen access for emergency responders and security vehicles.

Karak District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan arrived at the site alongside heavy police reinforcements to oversee the initial response. A joint search and clearance operation involving local police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) is currently underway across the surrounding hilly terrain to track down the perpetrators behind the attack.

The incident highlights the lingering security vulnerabilities facing law enforcement personnel across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's southern districts. Security forces have intensified intelligence-led operations across the region in recent months to neutralize active militant networks and counter the uptick in improvised explosive device targeting mobile patrols.

Government officials condemned the assault and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting police personnel serving in high-risk zones. Funeral arrangements for the fallen driver were conducted with full military honors, while provincial leaders promised comprehensive medical support for the injured officers as search sweeps continue in the area.
