NATO Commander Warns Russia Any Attack on Alliance Territory Would Be “Utterly Futile”

NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, U.S. Air Force General Alexus Grynkewich, warned that the alliance would destroy forces and systems involved in any attack on its territory. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum on Monday, he said NATO would block, blunt and break an enemy assault, including by targeting the infrastructure sustaining it. Grynkewich emphasized that NATO is a defensive alliance and said the goal was to make any attack “utterly futile.” He did not name Russia directly, though his remarks were understood as a warning to Moscow.
