Horror Crash Near Tharuadih Temple: 6 Dead, 2 Injured as Omni Van Collides with Truck in Kushinagar

KUSHINAGAR, India — A horrific head-on collision between a passenger van and a heavy trailer truck claimed the lives of six people, including an elderly man and his two sons, during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday near the Tharuadih Hanuman temple in Kushinagar district. Two others suffered severe injuries and remain in critical condition.

The violent crash occurred on a busy stretch of the highway late Sunday night when an Maruti Omni van carrying eight occupants collided head-on with a high-speed trailer truck traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the front section of the van was completely crushed beneath the truck, trapping passengers inside the crumpled wreckage. Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene after hearing the deafening sound of the crash, immediately alerting emergency services and local police.

Authorities confirmed that six victims died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. Among the deceased were a 68-year-old man and his two sons, who were returning home alongside family members and acquaintances.

Emergency rescue personnel used heavy equipment to extract the victims from the crushed vehicle. The two survivors, who sustained life-threatening injuries, were rushed to a nearby district hospital before being referred to a specialized medical facility for intensive care.

Police officials arrived promptly to secure the crash site, manage the resulting traffic congestion along the corridor, and clear the debris. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest high speed and poor visibility during the late-night hours as potential contributing factors to the tragic accident. Police have impounded the trailer truck involved in the crash and initiated a search to trace the driver, who fled the scene shortly after the collision.

Local administration officials expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured that necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured survivors. An official investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.
