Greece Shifts Saudi Patriot Mission to Monthly Review

Greece has moved the extension of its Patriot mission in Saudi Arabia from annual renewals to monthly reviews, reflecting a rapidly changing regional security environment. Athens’ Patriot battery has been deployed in Yanbu, a Red Sea port city in western Saudi Arabia, since 2021 under a bilateral defense agreement. Greek officials said the shift was proposed months ago and developed amid concerns over Riyadh’s expanding defense ties with Turkey and Pakistan. The change gives Athens more flexibility to reassess the deployment regularly.
