Greece Proposes Rules for Connecting Data Centers to Power Grid

Greece’s energy ministry proposed new rules for data centers seeking grid connections. Draft rules require operators to pay for grid links and upgrades and source 60% of annual power from renewables. A bank guarantee of €200,000 per MW would discourage speculative applications; applicants would also face financial readiness checks before final connection approval. IPTO would oversee requests above 10 MW; HEDNO would handle smaller projects. Applications reportedly rose from 5 GW to 9 GW in two months during summer.
