Globe, Starlink Deliver Satellite Mobile Connectivity to Isolated Areas

MANILA, Philippines — For communities long cut off by geography, staying connected has often been a challenge. Globe Telecom is now taking that challenge head-on through a partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink, rolling out satellite-enabled mobile connectivity to reach geographically isolated and underserved areas.

Instead of depending solely on traditional cell towers, which are costly and difficult to build in remote locations, the initiative uses Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellites to deliver mobile signal coverage. This approach allows Globe to extend voice, text, and data services to far-flung islands, mountainous regions, and areas frequently affected by natural disasters.

Globe said the collaboration supports its broader push for digital inclusion, ensuring that connectivity is not limited by terrain or distance. With satellite-backed mobile service, communities can gain better access to emergency communications, online education, digital financial services, and essential government platforms.

Starlink’s satellite constellation offers low-latency and high-capacity coverage, making it suitable for both mobile backhaul and emerging direct-to-device applications. Globe added that the technology also strengthens network resilience, enabling faster service restoration when storms or earthquakes damage ground-based infrastructure.

Industry analysts see the Globe–Starlink partnership as an important step toward narrowing the digital divide, as satellite-to-mobile solutions increasingly complement existing terrestrial networks. Globe said pilot deployments are already underway, with plans to steadily expand coverage to more isolated communities across the country.
