Finnish police opened a criminal investigation into suspected environmental law breaches at Google’s planned data centre site near Muhos in northern Finland. The probe concerns Tuike Finland, Google’s subsidiary, which cleared 330 hectares of forest and carried out drainage before required environmental impact assessments were completed. Police are examining whether the work breached the Water Act and caused environmental damage, including possible shortcomings in water management. Authorities ordered preparatory work halted at two sites. Google says it will cooperate with investigators.
