Starmer Says UK and Europe Must Draw Closer as US Reliability Shifts

Former prime minister Keir Starmer has urged the UK and European nations to deepen cooperation, arguing that Washington’s approach under Donald Trump marks a shift. Speaking at a dinner in Dublin, he said Europe should build a security framework and assume greater responsibility for its defence. Starmer stressed that closer European ties do not mean abandoning the United States, describing the relationship as important. He said Europe must prepare for realities rather than expect a return to past arrangements, strengthening coordination for European security.
