Eritrean Troops Reportedly Move Deeper into Ethiopia as Tigray Fighting Escalates

Eritrean troops have reportedly crossed into northern Ethiopia and moved toward areas of fighting in Tigray, residents of Adigrat told the BBC. Witnesses described convoys travelling south toward Edaga Hamus, though the reported movements have not been independently verified. Clashes between Ethiopian government forces and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) began two weeks ago, amid mutual accusations of violating the 2022 peace agreement. The renewed fighting follows worsening Ethiopia-Eritrea relations and the severing of diplomatic ties, heightening fears that the conflict could spread.
