El Salvador to Send Over 2,000 Soldiers to Haiti for Rescue While Elections Are Postponed

El Salvador says it will send more than 2,000 soldiers to Haiti to search for four missing Salvadoran aviation technicians and support operations against armed gangs. The technicians disappeared on October 18 after their vehicle was ambushed near Port-au-Prince while they were serving with a U.N.-backed security mission. Haiti’s electoral council has moved the first round of presidential and parliamentary elections from December 13 to July 18, 2027, citing insecurity. A second round and local elections are scheduled for October 4, 2027. The deployment’s command structure remains unclear.
