Ebola death toll in DR Congo surpasses 1,000

More than 1,000 people have died from Ebola in eastern DR Congo, with health workers recording 2,536 cases and 1,033 deaths since the epidemic was declared May 15, according to official figures. The situation is worsening amid dire conditions in conflict-affected areas, fragile hospitals, and gaps in contact tracing and funding.
