German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Chinese President Xi Jinping showed no interest in hosting a three-way summit with the United States and Russia concerning Ukraine. Steinmeier said he raised the idea during a meeting with Xi in Beijing on October 30. Xi reportedly said no preparations were underway and stressed that Europeans should be included in negotiations because the war is in Europe. The remarks cast doubt on whether Ukraine will feature in a leaders’ meeting at the November APEC summit.
