Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Buenos Aires following comments by Argentine President Javier Milei during a trip to Brazil, sources said. Milei used his second visit to back Senator Flavio Bolsonaro’s presidential bid and criticized Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, also attacking the Brazilian government and judiciary. Brazil decided to recall envoy Julio Bitelli after consultations involving Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Lula. Sources said Brazilian officials viewed Milei’s remarks as a direct affront, while diplomatic ties remain minimal.
