A Document About Intelligence, With One Letter Out of Place

There is a particular irony in a document about intelligence—artificial or otherwise—containing a mistake that a simple spell-checker would have caught. On Monday, President Donald Trump shared an official White House document on Truth Social announcing a new agreement on artificial intelligence, which his executive order had just renamed “Super Intelligence.” The document was signed by Trump and six leading technology executives. Beneath his signature, it identified him as “President of the Unites States” .

The misspelling—a single misplaced letter in the name of the country he leads—was quickly noticed. The White House’s official account on X reshared the document on Wednesday, still carrying the error . Social media users, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, seized on the mistake. Newsom circled the typo in red and wrote, “The Golden Age of ‘Super Intelligence’” . One user posted, “So 6 ‘smartest’ people in the world signed a document with the United States spelt wrong” .

The document itself, titled “White House Accord on Super Intelligence – Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities,” outlines a voluntary framework for AI development. It calls for four layers of controls and oversight: robust internal controls, an internal oversight team, independent external auditors, and an independent board committee to review reports and ensure problems are addressed . The signatories included Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, xAI chief Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei .

Trump described the commitment as “morally binding,” and the agreement acknowledges that the measures could eventually be incorporated into laws or regulations. It is currently voluntary rather than legally enforceable . During the White House meeting, Trump said the term “artificial intelligence” was inappropriate because the technology is not “artificial,” and directed federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications .

The typo’s persistence—surviving the signing ceremony, the White House’s own social media sharing, and the days that followed—drew particular attention given the subject matter. If “super intelligence” was meant to signal a leap forward in technological capability, the document announcing it offered a reminder that human error remains remarkably resistant to advancement. As one social media commenter put it, “Maybe we need some super intelligence running typo checks on these docs” .
