Officials say visitors at those locations during specific event windows may have been exposed and should check their immunity and monitor for symptoms.

Measles, though once declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, has been resurging in recent years amid changes in vaccination coverage and increased travel — with hundreds of cases reported nationally so far in 2026. The virus is extremely contagious and can spread through respiratory droplets and shared air, particularly in crowded places such as airports and theme parks.

Public health officials in both counties have encouraged those who may have been exposed to consult their health care providers about vaccination or monitoring, emphasizing that the measles–mumps–rubella (MMR) vaccine is highly effective at preventing the disease. Local authorities are also working with partner agencies to notify individuals who may have been seated near infected passengers or who were present at other exposure sites.

While these cases underscore how quickly measles can cross geographical and social boundaries, health leaders stress that vaccination remains the best defense. As travel continues and communities interact in shared spaces, awareness — and immunity — may help temper further spread.
