We Will Bounce Back, We Will Regain the Trust of the People — President Marcos Unfazed by Low Trust Rating

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said he remains confident in his administration’s direction and is not swayed by recent survey results showing a decline in his public trust ratings, reiterating his commitment to “bounce back” and regain the confidence of the Filipino people.

In remarks responding to public opinion surveys that have shown mixed results for his trust rating in recent months, Marcos acknowledged the existence of varying data from different pollsters but insisted that numbers alone do not dictate how he governs.

“There are many surveys. Let’s not base it on one,” the President said when asked about recent low trust figures reported by one polling firm. He challenged critics to consider the source of data and to understand that imperfect information can lead to imperfect conclusions.

Despite some polls showing his trust rating trailing behind other national figures, such as Vice President Sara Duterte, Marcos pointed to other surveys and data showing stronger public support — including trust scores that have risen in other polls.

The President also underscored that his focus is on action and governance, not on numerical ratings. “We don’t work based on surveys,” he said in a separate interview, emphasizing that his initiatives are aimed at improving the daily lives of Filipinos rather than merely boosting approval figures.

Marcos’s statement, “We will bounce back; we will regain the trust of the people,” reflects his broader message that public confidence can be restored through sustained performance and tangible results. Government officials have likewise called on Filipinos to look at the substance of policies and programs rather than single survey snapshots.

Analysts suggest that trust ratings can fluctuate over time due to economic conditions, policy outcomes, and public expectations, and that long-term trends may differ from short-term results. Still, public trust remains a key barometer of political stability and governance performance.

For now, Marcos insists his administration will continue its work, focusing on initiatives that address national concerns, strengthen public services, and deliver on the government’s priorities — all with the goal of regaining and sustaining public trust.
