UPS Worker Missed Security Alert, Sending F-35 Parts Through Hong Kong to China

A shipment containing an F-35 cockpit canopy and weapons-bay door was diverted through Hong Kong while travelling from Australia to the United States, despite export-control instructions barring that route. A freight forwarder had flagged the restrictions, but a UPS employee reportedly failed to see or act on the alert, which may have been sent through a different system. Chinese authorities took custody of the parts, which have not been returned. The incident has prompted Pentagon and State Department investigations and congressional scrutiny of military supply-chain safeguards
