Ukraine Has Retaken More Territory Than Russia Captured This Fall, Zelensky Says

Ukrainian forces have liberated more territory than Russian troops have captured since the beginning of autumn, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an October 18 address. He cited Ukrainian operations near Dobropillia and said troops were holding positions in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. Ukraine’s Third Army Corps separately reported recapturing 101 square kilometers in the Lyman sector on October 14. Its commander said Operation Vivaldi had returned 277 square kilometers and 16 settlements to Ukrainian control. These figures and battlefield claims were not independently verified.
