Trump Imposes 50% Tariffs on Certain Canadian Goods Over Trade Discrimination Allegations

President Trump signed three proclamations imposing additional 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods, the White House said, citing Canada’s “discriminatory treatment” of U.S. commerce. The measures—under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930—apply to covered products regardless of whether they originate under the USMCA. The tariffs are scheduled to take effect 30 days after signing and are intended to offset alleged disadvantages to American exporters. Products include cars, alcohol, and dairy, while some categories are excluded.
