TALLAHASSEE, Florida — A celebratory gathering turned into a scene of horror on Saturday night, October 24, 2026 after gunfire erupted following a nearby football game, leaving 11 people wounded by gunshot—including six children—and another individual injured in the ensuing panic.
The violent outbreak occurred around 8:00 p.m. in a crowded area on Perry Street near Florida A&M University's campus during homecoming weekend festivities. According to preliminary reports from the Tallahassee Police Department, a physical altercation broke out in the crowd shortly before multiple gunshots rang out.
Two dozen law enforcement officers were already stationed nearby due to event traffic and crowd monitoring. First responders immediately rushed toward the sound of gunfire without knowing the exact number or location of the shooters. Bystanders scrambled for safety, causing a chaotic surge that left a victim's grandmother trampled and injured as she fled the area.
Authorities confirmed that at least 12 people were injured in total, with 11 individuals suffering direct gunshot wounds, including six children. At least three of the victims were transported to local hospitals in serious condition, while nine others were reported to be in stable condition. Among those struck by gunfire was at least one student from Florida A&M University, and no fatalities were immediately reported.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell stated at a late-night press conference that no suspects were immediately taken into custody and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
"Tonight, our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they face the devastating impact of this violence," Police Chief Lawrence Revell said. "It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured."
Florida A&M University issued a statement confirming that the incident took place off campus and reassured the community that university grounds remain secure, while urging residents and students to avoid the area to allow detectives to gather evidence and process the scene.
