Tragedy in Wolverhampton: Man Dies After Car Crashes into Lidl Store Entrance

WOLVERHAMPTON, United Kingdom — A man in his 30s lost his life and several others sustained injuries after a vehicle crashed directly into the entrance of a Lidl supermarket on Finchfield Hill, Wolverhampton, triggering an urgent emergency response.

The incident occurred shortly before 6:00 PM on Friday when a car smashed through the store’s front entrance glass, plowing into the checkout and aisle areas. The collision destroyed display racks, sent debris flying across the floor, and caused immediate panic among shoppers and staff inside the premises.

Eyewitnesses described moments of chaotic horror as aisles toppled and shattered glass filled the store. Emergency crews from West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service, and West Midlands Ambulance Service rushed to the scene to assess casualties and secure the damaged building structure.

Paramedics evaluated a man in his 30s inside the store who was found in critical condition. Despite receiving advanced life support from medical staff, his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Medical teams treated multiple other individuals following the crash. A female shopper inside the store sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for urgent treatment, while a second man from inside the building was treated for injuries before being conveyed to the hospital. Additionally, four other patients suffered minor injuries and received self-care advice at the site.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the female driver of the vehicle lost control after suffering a medical episode while behind the wheel. She received immediate medical treatment on-site from ambulance personnel before being transferred to a nearby hospital for further assessment.

West Midlands Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that specialist officers are providing support to the victim’s family. Investigators remained at Finchfield Hill into the night to collect forensic evidence, inspect the building's structural integrity, and determine the exact circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
