MANISA, TÜRKIYE — A devastating traffic accident in western Türkiye has left at least 11 people dead and 27 others injured after a tour bus collided with a truck and overturned on a busy highway.
The horrific collision occurred along the Gebze–Orhangazi–İzmir Highway near the Akhisar toll plaza in Manisa province. The passenger coach was en route from Bursa toward İzmir, carrying travelers bound for the tourist destination of Pamukkale in Denizli province, when it struck a freight truck.
The impact caused the coach to lose control, crash into safety barriers, and overturn across the roadway with its windscreen smashed.
The Manisa Governor’s Office confirmed receiving distress calls regarding the crash shortly after 11:00 AM local time. First responders—including fleets of ambulances, firefighting crews, police officers, and disaster rescue teams—were dispatched to the crash site.
Rescuers worked swiftly to extricate passengers trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Eleven individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while 27 injured passengers received immediate emergency medical care before being transported to surrounding hospitals for further treatment. Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated on social media that authorities are closely monitoring the emergency operations in coordination with all relevant institutions.
Law enforcement officials have secured the area and launched a formal investigation to determine the precise cause of the collision, including road conditions, vehicle speeds, and visibility at the time of the crash.
Traffic along the major transit corridor was brought to a complete standstill for hours as emergency teams cleared heavy debris, righted the overturned coach, and towed damaged vehicles from the roadway. Highway patrol officers rerouted regional traffic onto secondary roads to minimize delays while forensic teams gathered evidence from the scene.
As news of the tragedy spread, government leaders and local officials expressed their deep condolences to the families of the victims. Authorities have set up dedicated support hotlines and emergency centers at nearby regional hospitals to assist distraught relatives seeking information about the condition and whereabouts of their loved ones.
