TAYUG, PANGASINAN — A peaceful afternoon turned into a horrific nightmare in Barangay Amistad, Tayug, after a nine-year-old boy lost his life in a devastating farming accident.
The young victim died after falling from a moving agricultural tractor and being struck by its heavy rotating plow blades.
According to the Tayug Police Station, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 while a local farmer was actively plowing a field. Prior to the accident, the tractor driver noted that a group of five children, including the victim, had been playing near the active work zone. The driver reportedly stopped and warned the children multiple times to stay away from the heavy machinery for their own safety. Tragically, those warnings went unheeded.
As the driver resumed his work plowing the field, he was unaware that the nine-year-old boy had allegedly climbed onto the moving rotor mechanism. Moments later, the child slipped from his perch and accidentally fell directly into the path of the spinning blades.
Realizing what had happened; the distraught driver immediately halted the machinery, retrieved the severely injured boy, and rushed him to the nearest hospital. Despite the swift response, medical personnel declared the child dead on arrival.
The tractor driver has since been taken into police custody as authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. According to law enforcement, the driver has met with the victim's grieving family and has promised to shoulder all funeral costs and provide financial assistance to the bereaved relatives.
In the wake of the heartbreak, local authorities are using this grim incident to issue an urgent plea to the agricultural community.
"We are appealing to parents to closely supervise and guide their children," said Police Major Ronnel Balangcod, officer-in-charge of the Tayug Police Station, in a statement to regional media. "The guidance and supervision of our parents must always be there, especially around dangerous areas and heavy farming equipment."
