The fatal crash occurred when a goods-laden trailer traveling toward Lagos collided with an oncoming vehicle along the Badeggi–Bida stretch of the Lambata-Lapai-Bida highway corridor.

Preliminary investigations and eyewitness reports indicate that the trailer driver lost control while attempting to maneuver around severe potholes and deteriorated sections of the road. The sudden swerve caused the heavily loaded trailer to overturn, crushing occupants within the vehicle and impacting nearby traffic. Emergency responders quickly mobilized to the scene to pull victims from the wreckage and transfer the injured to medical facilities for urgent care.
