MINNA, NIGER STATE — Ten people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a catastrophic road accident involving a heavy-duty trailer at Badeggi, located in the Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State. The fatal crash occurred when a goods-laden trailer traveling toward Lagos collided with an oncoming vehicle along the Badeggi–Bida stretch of the Lambata-Lapai-Bida highway corridor.

Preliminary investigations and eyewitness reports indicate that the trailer driver lost control while attempting to maneuver around severe potholes and deteriorated sections of the road. The sudden swerve caused the heavily loaded trailer to overturn, crushing occupants within the vehicle and impacting nearby traffic. Emergency responders quickly mobilized to the scene to pull victims from the wreckage and transfer the injured to medical facilities for urgent care.

Key details of the incident indicate that the crash occurred in Badeggi, situated within the Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State. The accident resulted in 10 confirmed fatalities and left multiple passengers hospitalized with serious injuries after the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to navigate severely deteriorated road conditions. In the aftermath of the tragedy, local government leadership took immediate action to organize funeral rites and coordinate mass burial services for the deceased.

Following the tragedy, local officials and community leaders expressed profound grief over the avoidable loss of human life. Bida Local Government Area Chairman, Alhaji Usman Mohammed Monko, coordinated funeral prayers for the victims at the Abdulrahman Bin Auf Juma'at Mosque before conducting burial proceedings.
