Tragedy in Kherson: Russian Drone Strike Hits Historic Ukrainian Monastery, Killing Clergy Member and Wounding Four

KHERSON, Ukraine — A targeted Russian drone attack struck a historic men's monastery in Ukraine's southern Kherson region, killing a 71-year-old priest and leaving four other clergy members injured.

The attack occurred in the village of Chervonyi Maiak, within the Novoraisk community, when a Russian first-person-view (FPV) drone directly hit the religious compound. According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the strike instantly killed the senior priest and left four fellow clergymen—aged between 31 and 53—suffering from blast injuries and shrapnel wounds. Emergency services responded to the scene to provide critical medical treatment and transport the survivors to regional healthcare facilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly condemned the attack, delivering condolences to the victims' families and highlighting the ongoing destruction of civilian and religious infrastructure across the country.
