Tragedy in Delhi Cantonment: Two Killed as Bike Skids into Path of Speeding Mahindra Thar

NEW DELHI, India — A horrific road accident claimed two lives in the Delhi Cantonment area on Wednesday evening, September 2, 2026 when a motorcycle skidded on a busy thoroughfare and was rammed by a Mahindra Thar SUV. The deceased, identified as employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), were commuting home from their workplace at Lodhi Road toward Dwarka when the fatal collision occurred near the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) traffic signal.

The incident unfolded around 5:00 PM along a busy corridor in South-West Delhi. According to preliminary police investigations, the victims' two-wheeler lost traction and skidded onto the tarmac. Before the riders could recover or clear the roadway, a fast-approaching Mahindra Thar traveling behind them collided directly with the fallen motorcycle.

A off-duty staff member from the Delhi Cantonment police station, who happened to be passing by the scene, immediately alerted local emergency teams and requested urgent medical assistance. Both individuals sustained severe trauma in the crash and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where attending physicians declared them dead on arrival.

Bystanders and eyewitnesses at the busy intersection quickly intervened, apprehending the SUV driver before he could leave the site and handing him over to arriving law enforcement officers. Authorities identified the driver as a 26-year-old resident of Jhajjar, Haryana, who runs a business in Rohini.

The vehicle involved in the crash was impounded as evidence, and officers secured the scene to prevent secondary accidents during peak evening traffic.

Delhi Police have formally registered a case at the Delhi Cantonment police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to rash driving on a public way and causing death by negligence.

Investigators are examining closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage along the corridor and conducting forensic analysis on both vehicles to determine the precise speed and sequence of events leading up to the impact. The bodies of both victims have been sent for post-mortem examinations as the formal inquiry continues.
