Tragedy in Bajaur: Police Officer Martyred in Violent Terrorist Attack on Checkpoint

BAJAUR, Pakistan — A police officer was martyred after unidentified terrorists launched a heavy attack on a security post in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The assault took place during the early hours, targeting a remote police checkpoint established to maintain law and order in the border region.

According to police sources, a group of heavily armed militants approached the outpost under the cover of darkness and opened indiscriminate fire using automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades. The security personnel stationed at the post responded promptly, leading to an intense exchange of fire that lasted for nearly an hour before the attackers fled into the surrounding mountainous terrain.

Tragically, one police constable stationed at the forward position sustained critical gunshot wounds during the initial wave of the attack and succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated for emergency medical care.

Following the incident, additional contingents of police and security forces reinforced the area and launched a comprehensive search operation across adjacent villages and potential escape routes to track down the fleeing assailants.

Local authorities confirmed that emergency medical teams stabilized the situation on-site, and security around sensitive government installations and check posts across the district has been heightened.

"Our personnel fought courageously to repel the attack. The sacrifice of our fallen martyr will not go in vain, and search operations will continue until all perpetrators are brought to justice," a senior district police official stated.

The Bajaur district, bordering Afghanistan, has seen a resurgence in militant activity targeting law enforcement and local security infrastructure in recent months.

Higher security alerts have been issued across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with officials emphasizing reinforced patrolling and enhanced intelligence-led operations to counter the rising threat of border-region militancy.

The Bajaur police department later identified the fallen officer as Constable Luqman Khan, a dedicated local resident who had served on the force for over five years. A solemn funeral service with full military honors was held at the district headquarters, attended by high-ranking civil and military officials alongside hundreds of local community members who gathered to pay their final respects. Authorities assured the family that state support and benefits would be provided immediately in recognition of his heroics and ultimate sacrifice.
