Buenos Aires, Argentina—A high-speed head-on crash between two passenger sedans along a two-lane rural highway in Argentina killed three motorists early Sunday morning, leaving structural debris scattered across two hundred meters of asphalt.
The collision unfolded around 4:10 a.m. along an unlit section of a provincial route frequently used by long-haul freight trucks and regional commuters. Highway patrol reports indicate that one sedan attempted an overtaking maneuver on a double-yellow line curve, colliding head-on with an oncoming vehicle traveling in the opposite lane.
The violent impact crushed the engine compartments of both vehicles into the passenger cabins, instantly trapping the occupants inside shattered metal frames. Emergency crews from two nearby municipalities responded with heavy hydraulic extraction tools to cut through the roof pillars.
Firefighters extracted two occupants from the northbound sedan and one driver from the southbound vehicle, but medical officers declared all three dead at the scene from fatal impact trauma.
Police accident reconstruction specialists noted that neither vehicle showed evidence of significant braking prior to the point of impact, pointing to high speeds and reduced reaction time on the unlit rural stretch.
"The force of the collision completely fused the front frames of both cars together," said local volunteer fire chief Gonzalo Mendez at the scene. "There was no room for survival inside the passenger compartments."
State prosecutors ordered an immediate audit of road maintenance logs for the route, where local agricultural transport groups have repeatedly requested solar street lighting and rumble strips along hazardous curve sectors.
Tow units cleared the twisted chassis from the asphalt shortly after 10:00 a.m., allowing highway police to open one lane under alternate traffic controls while road crews repaired damaged asphalt and shoulder barriers.
