The Final Ride: Wild Waves Waves Goodbye After Nearly 50 Years

For nearly five decades, summers in the Pacific Northwest have meant the sounds of laughter, splashing water, and the whirl of roller coasters at Wild Waves Theme Park in Federal Way, Washington. But this week, park officials announced that 2026 will be the park’s final season of operation, bringing to a close a long-cherished local tradition that has welcomed generations of visitors since its opening in 1977.

In a statement released on December 10, 2025, Wild Waves — a combined amusement and water park beloved across the Puget Sound region — confirmed that it will open for the 2026 season as usual beginning in May, but will close its doors permanently on November 1, 2026.

Kieran Burke, President and Owner of Premier Parks, LLC — the operator of Wild Waves — said that the park has faced increasing operational costs and financial pressures since reopening after pandemic-related shutdowns, resulting in significant losses that make continued operation unsustainable. Despite efforts to recover, the company determined that it can no longer keep the park running beyond the 2026 season.

Wild Waves has been a staple of family activities and summer vacations in the region, featuring dozens of thrill rides, water slides, and seasonal events like Fright Fest. During its nearly 49 years of operation, it entertained millions of guests and supported hundreds of seasonal and full-time jobs.

Park officials emphasized that all previously purchased tickets, season passes, and group events for 2026 will be honored, and the final season will still offer rides, water attractions, and special themed experiences as a memorable farewell.

Property owner Jeff Stock of EPI Realty Holdings also expressed appreciation for the park’s legacy, while noting early planning has begun for future development of the site that could bring “meaningful, lasting benefits” to the City of Federal Way and its community after the park’s closure.

For many residents and visitors alike, the announcement marks the end of an era for a local institution that has shaped summers and memories across generations.
