Syrian Kurdish Leader Announces SDF Dissolution After Integration Into Army

Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, announced the group’s dissolution after its military and security institutions were integrated into Syria’s army and state structures. The SDF, established in 2015 and backed by Washington in the fight against the Islamic State, controlled large areas of northeastern Syria. The agreement with Damascus followed months of negotiations and clashes that reduced Kurdish territorial control. Abdi said the military phase had ended, but pledged to continue pursuing constitutional recognition and rights for Syria’s Kurdish population
