Southern China and Hong Kong Brace for Typhoon Ragasa, the ‘King of Storms’

Southern China and Hong Kong are preparing for the arrival of Typhoon Ragasa, a storm meteorologists have described as the “king of storms” due to its immense scale and destructive force. According to CNN, Ragasa has weakened slightly to the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane but continues to pose grave risks across the region.

Authorities in Guangdong Province have evacuated hundreds of thousands of residents, prioritizing coastal towns and vulnerable areas. In Hong Kong, officials have raised the storm warning to level eight, one of the highest alerts in the system. The move effectively halts most public transport and urges people to remain indoors as the city braces for intense winds and heavy rainfall.

Ragasa had already left a destructive trail through the Philippines and Taiwan, where wind gusts reached up to 267 kilometers per hour, toppling power lines, uprooting trees, and causing significant flooding. Emergency crews across southern China are now mobilizing, with medical teams, military units, and disaster response workers on standby.

China has officially declared a state of emergency, underscoring the scale of the threat. While forecasters expect the typhoon to gradually weaken, the storm remains powerful enough to disrupt daily life, damage infrastructure, and test disaster preparedness across one of the world’s most densely populated regions.
