South Korea to install hidden-camera detectors in public restrooms

South Korea will require hidden-camera detection systems in public restrooms under a legal revision passed by the National Assembly on July 23. The amendment to the Public Toilets Act expands the safety equipment local governments must install, adding devices specifically designed to detect illegal recording equipment. Municipal authorities will also be required to inspect how the systems are used and maintained. The change comes amid ongoing reports of covert filming in restrooms. Police data submitted to lawmakers cited 1,457 illegal filming cases between 2021 and 2023.
