South Darfur Hospital Faces Shutdown After Last Doctor Leaves

The only doctor serving Rehed El Bardi Hospital in South Darfur has left to pursue postgraduate studies, leaving the facility without a permanent physician. The hospital has operated with limited medicines, equipment, and staff since the war began in April 2023, and it serves residents of Rehed El Bardi as well as patients from nearby localities who often cannot reach Nyala for treatment. With little support from the state or humanitarian groups, local authorities and community leaders launched a fundraising initiative and formed an 11-member committee to keep services running and recruit medical staff.
