Somalia’s approval of Starlink does not signal an end to its homegrown telecom success story. Instead, it reflects a pragmatic openness to layered infrastructure, where multiple systems coexist, overlap, and compete. The future of connectivity may not belong to a single network, but to an ecosystem where fiber, mobile towers, and satellites each serve their moment.

As dishes turn skyward and signals arrive from orbit, Somalia’s internet story enters a new chapter. It is not defined by speed alone, nor by novelty, but by choice — the gradual expansion of how, where, and at what cost people can reach beyond their immediate horizon.
