Ukraine’s Centre for Countering Disinformation warned that Russia may be planning provocations using Polish symbols on the territory of Ukraine. The center said the operation—attributed to Russia’s GRU—appears intended to politically destabilize Ukraine’s relationship with Poland by creating “tension” and a “rift” between the two countries.
The warning is linked to timing around the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which is being held in Gdańsk, Poland on June 25–26. Ukraine said the “main goal” of the suspected operation is to sow mistrust and escalate political friction between Poland and Ukraine.
The alert comes amid a broader diplomatic dispute between Poland and Ukraine over historical issues, including controversy surrounding a Ukrainian military unit named after figures associated with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
